About Us

Owners Nick and Jessica Smith have been part of the Jefferson City small business community for years, opening up the Red Wheel Bike Shop in 2003 on West Truman Boulevard. After moving locations a few times they ended up at The Millbottoms in 2015.  Loving their location, when the small building next door opened up in November of 2023 they could not pass up the chance to expand their business portfolio. Loving the outdoors and having a space to spend time with friends and family the idea for The Red Wheel Steam House was born.

Building History

While small, the building housing The Red Wheel Steam House has a lot of history and memories.

Built in the early 1900s the building was originally used in the Missouri Power and Light Plant. Specifically, our little building is rumored to have been the condensation room while the large building next door housed the broilers that  supplied power to Jefferson City.

With the convenient location near the Missouri River and nearby Wears Creek, the area is prone to flooding during wet seasons with the last major flood being in 2019 and The Great Flood of 1993 being one of the worst to date.
